Heat warning issued for region through Wednesday

LIMA — The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Tuesday throughout much of Northwest Ohio.

The agency in its latest report says a hot and humid air mass will settle into the region — which includes Allen, Van Wert, Putnam, Paulding, Defiance, Henry and Williams counties in Ohio and all of northern Indiana — starting Monday and continuing until Wednesday.

Tuesday will be the hottest day this week, according to the NWS, with heat indices ranging from 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Isolated storms are possible late Wednesday. Heat index readings of 99 degrees Fahrenheit are predicted for Tuesday in Lima, with that number expected to reach 105 degrees on Wednesday afternoon.

Low temperatures during the period are forecast to be in the low to mid-70s.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated and to avoid outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. for the next few days. If outdoors, wear light-colored and lightweight clothing, the NWS suggests.
