Wheeler to be honored at OD awareness rally

LIMA — The late Dr. Robert Wheeler will be honored during a rally in downtown Lima for International Overdose Awareness Day.

The free event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in the northeast quad of Lima’s Town Square.

The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties will answer questions and give away free Narcan kits, the overdose reversal nasal spray.

Food, children’s activities and other resources will also be available.

Wheeler, who died in 2022, provided addiction treatment through Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with a philosophy to promote “treatment over punishment.”

T-shirts commemorating International Overdose Awareness Day are on sale at ohiooverdoseawareness2025.spiritsale.com to benefit next year’s event.

Orders may be picked up at the Prevention, Awareness, Support Services office in Lima, located at 309 W. High St.
