Families encouraged to collect supplies for children overseas

LIMA — With school back in session and buying school supplies underway, the public is encouraged to add more items to their lists to donate to children in need around the world through Samaritan’s Purse’s program Operation Christmas Child.

“Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items—and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way,” the Samaritan’s Purse website reads.

National Collection Week for the shoeboxes will be from Nov. 18 to 25. There will be over 4,700 drop-off locations in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The list of locations will be posted on Samaritan Purse’s website in early October. Donations can also be given to shoeboxes online. Samaritan’s Purse’s website also gives tips on how to make and pack shoeboxes.
