Brown, senators call for updated processes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, called for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to modernize the process for disclosing foreign-owned farmland with a bipartisan group of colleagues by streamlining electronic submission and retention of disclosures under the Agriculture Foreign Investment Disclosure Act.

The disclosures are currently filled out by hand on physical paper despite the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 mandating the establishment of a streamlined process and an internet database.

John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) and John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) were among the other U.S. senators who joined in signing the letter.
