Unique options abound at Allen County Fair

LIMA — The Allen County Fair will host a variety of additional free events and shows over its nine-day run.

• Tunnel to Towers Foundation – 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit: 4-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 and 1-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 through Saturday, Aug. 24

An 83-foot tractor-trailer transforms into a 1,100-square foot museum space. The exhibit provides artifacts from Ground Zero, including World Trade Center steel. It features videos, 9/11 dispatch audio and a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who lost their lives since 9/11 due to related illnesses that fateful day.

• Extreme Raptors Show: Every day at Roschman Park

In 1996, Jonathan Wood founded Raptor Project Inc., which houses the largest traveling collection of birds of prey in the world. His work has been featured on various national television channels, and he produced the Extreme Raptors show for Six Flags Theme Parks Inc.

• Magician and Comedian Michael Misko: Tuesday, Aug. 20-Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Nutrien Plaza Stage

Misko is an internationally award-winning magician who has performed all around the world. His greatest asset is the ability to combine sleight-of-hand technique and theatrical motivations to form a seamless evening of inspired, skilled and entertaining magic.

• Jungle Island Zoo: Every day at Roschman Park

The family-operated zoo offers a variety of rare animals from around the world. The friendly staff is available to provide fun facts and answer any questions, and visitors can observe, pet, and feed the animals.

• Bear Hollow Wood Carvers: Monday, Aug. 19-Saturday, Aug. 24tat Nutrien Plaza stage

From French Lick, Indiana, the Bear Hollow Wood Carvers showcase their talents by carving logs into sculptures. The carvers have performed for NASCAR, the Professional Bull Riders Association, and Ducks Unlimited, as well many others. The carvings will be auctioned off on Saturday, August 24 at 2:30 p.m. on the Nutrien Plaza Stage.

• Karaoke by Lynette: 8-11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, Tuesday, Aug. 20 and Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Nutrien Plaza Stage

In 2005, Lynette started running open-mic Karaoke shows in Fort Lauderdale. Since moving to Lima in 2015, she primarily plays in local clubs such as the Lima Fraternal Order of Eagles, Delphos Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Lima Elks Club and the Lima Moose, occasionally playing at clubs at Indian Lake.
