Future Lima physicians honored in OSU white coat ceremony

LIMA — Fifteen students from The Ohio State University Medical School will spend two years training at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center through the university’s community medicine program.

OSU hosted a white coat ceremony Friday welcoming new medical students to campus, including the 15 community medicine students who will train in Lima starting in 2026.

The ceremony “symbolized the students’ transition into the world of medicine and served as a pivotal moment in their academic and professional development,” Mercy Health-Lima President Ronda Lehman said in a news release.

“We are excited to welcome these students in the future to learn and deepen the skills and training needed to succeed in community health care.”

The partnership between St. Rita’s and OSU is intended to recruit young physicians to Lima and the surrounding region, and stave off a physician shortage.
