Final plea offer extended by prosecutors to Lima man

LIMA — A Lima man charged with numerous drug and weapons charges was given until noon Wednesday to accept or reject the fourth and final plea offer from prosecutors before a scheduled Sept. 10 trial date.

Taurus Fisher, 53, of Lima, appeared briefly in Allen County Common Pleas Court on Monday as one last plea offer was placed into the official court record.

Fisher was indicted by a grand jury in March of 2023 on two counts of trafficking in marijuana and one count of burglary, each second-degree felonies; one count of bribery and two counts of having weapons under disability, third-degree felonies, and a fourth-degree felony charge of trafficking in marijuana.

The indictment also included specifications for the use of a handgun and called for the forfeiture of a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber and Glock 27 firearms and $192 in U.S. currency.

Assistant Allen County Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Carp said Monday that after several back-and-forth offers and counter offers between his office and Fisher’s defense team they had agreed on a jointly recommended prison term of 14 years for the Lima man. All gun specifications, which carry additional, mandatory prison time, would be dismissed, Carp said.

The offer expires as at noon Wednesday. Defense attorney David Rieser said he would discuss the offer with his client. Judge Jeffrey Reed set a pre-trial hearing for 10:30 a.m. that same day, noting for the record that either a resolution to the case will be agreed upon or the parties will head to a jury trial next month.
