Van Wert site receives brownfield grant

VAN WERT — A former reservoir site in Van Wert County has been included in the latest list of sites to receive brownfield assessment grants, according to a release from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office.

The former reservoir at the corner of Anderson Avenue and Blain Street in Van Wert is the subject of a $66,605 grant from the Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program. The area had formerly served as a stone and cement dumping site, a borrow pit and a railroad reservoir, with historic maps showing the presence of buildings for car painting at the site.

The grant will fund environmental studies to investigate any concerns. This is a needed first step to transforming the site into green space suitable for housing development.
