Allen County Public Health spreads breastfeeding awareness

LIMA — Allen County Public Health sent out a statement Wednesday reminding the public that August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month as World Breastfeeding Week concludes.

The health district shared information about the health benefits for mothers and babies, including reducing the risk of respiratory illness, ear infections, allergies and some cancers.

Public Health said the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization recommend breastfeeding for the first six months of life and continued breastfeeding with complementary foods for two years or longer.
