Final ‘Second Saturday’ event set at Swiss Community Historical Society

BLUFFTON — The Swiss Community Historical Society of Bluffton and Pandora will hold its final Second Saturday event of the summer from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Schumacher Homestead, 8350 Bixel Road, Bluffton.

Visitors are invited to tour the garden. This year marks the second season that the garden has been cared for by committee members Becki Ahmed, Joyce Suter and Nancy Yeager, with the help of others. There will be docents available to point out and discuss the plants used by the early settlers, including the labeled herbs and broom corn.

There will also be guided tours of the (air-conditioned) mid-19th century house, with many period artifacts, some original to the house. Guests may also visit the summer kitchen, workshop, barn and the under-construction heritage center.

Admission is $5 for persons 17 and older and free for those 16 and under and members.
