Cedar Point closing ride that’s been a park favorite since 1993

SANDUSKY, OH — Fans of Cedar Point have just under a month to enjoy a longtime favorite ride one more time before it closes for good. The amusement park announced last week that Snake River Falls will take its final ride on Sept. 2.

When it opened in 1993, Snake River Falls was the tallest, steepest and fastest water flume ride in the world, according to Cedar Point. Standing at 82-feet tall, the water ride plunges riders into a river below causing a massive wave to splash riders and other guests who might be standing on the bridge that crosses the flume.

“As with previous attractions that have reached the end of their serviceable life, we honor & respect the past but look forward to future FUN for generations to come,” wrote Tony Clark, director of communications for Cedar Point. “We’ll have more details on a special ‘last splash’ in the coming weeks. For now, take the plunge and join the more than 15 million guests who have enjoyed their ride over the falls!”

While details about future plans for the area where Snake River Falls sits have not been released, the park did say the ride is being closed to “make way for future expansion.”
