Car dealer holds fundraiser for Laurel Oaks playground

LIMA — Taylor Kia of Lima will hold a fundraiser for the Laurel Oaks community to help replace the playground equipment that was destroyed due to a fire in June.

The fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at Taylor Kia of Lima, 2100 N. Cable Road, Lima.

Food vendors Fat Kid BBQ, QT Kay’s Kitchen and Grams Funnel Cakes & Sweet Treats will be in attendance and will donate a portion of their sales to the cause. Raffles and prizes will also be available.

“We are committed to supporting our community and helping Laurel Oaks rebuild their playground,” said Victoria Kimmel, of Taylor Kia of Lima. “We invite everyone to join us for a day of fun, food, and philanthropy. Together, we can make a difference and help restore a beloved playground which will bring joy to families for many years to come.”

After the playground fire, the American Township Police Department interviewed and released four suspects; three adult males and one juvenile male. Charges were expected to be presented to the prosecutor’s office.

The Laurel Oaks Neighborhood Association’s secretary/treasurer said the equipment was donated by Elida schools when they rebuilt their elementary school.

“Many man-hours went in to moving the piece and reconstructing it in our park,” the Laurel Oaks representative said. “A quick search shows that pieces of this nature run anywhere from $50K-$100K or more. We were very fortunate to get this donation, and it was loved by many children.”
