Lima schools to give away school supplies

LIMA — Lima schools will give away free book bags and school supplies from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at Martin Luther King Park, 400 E. Eighth St., Lima.

The school district’s annual back-to-school celebration will include a free picnic dinner, face painting, games and activities, such as basketball, kickball and cheer demonstrations from the Lima Senior cheerleaders.

A limited supply of personal hygiene products and undergarments donated by the United Autoworkers Local 1765 union will also be available that evening.

Students must be present to take supplies home.

Families are encouraged to donate gently used school uniforms to Project Uniform Share during the event. Uniforms will then be washed and distributed to families in need when school starts.

Other donations will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 2, at the Central Services/Bus Garage, 600 E. Wayne St., Lima. The garage is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
