Assistance available for cooling costs

LIMA — The Area Agency on Aging 3 reminds area residents that through Sept. 30, income-eligible families can receive assistance in paying their electric bill, purchasing an air conditioner or fan or repairing their central air conditioning unit through the Ohio Department of Development’s Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program.

The program is available for Ohio families that have a gross income of 175% or less than the Federal Poverty Guidelines, provided the family has seven total members or fewer. For example, a family of four must be at or below $56,400 in annual income to qualify, For families with more than seven members, the cutoff is set at 60% of the state median income. Those with qualifying medical conditions, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or asthma, may also apply.
