Patrol plans OVI checkpoint for Friday evening

LIMA – An OVI checkpoint to deter and intercept impaired drivers will be held in Allen County on Friday evening, according to a spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The checkpoint is funded by federal grant funds. The exact location will be announced Friday morning.

“Based on provisional data, there were 11,324 OVI-related crashes in which 725 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Lt. Nicholas R. Boes, commander of the Lima patrol post, said in a prepared statement. “OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways”.

Patrol officials ask motorists to call 911 or #677 if they suspect an impaired driver.
