Lima shares info on TTHMs

LIMA — The city of Lima sent a notice to water customers June 27 about elevated levels of Total Trihalomethanes saying although the levels were above drinking water standards, they did not pose an immediate risk to anyone’s health.

The city said it is working with the state’s EPA to investigate the cause and that TTHMs are a byproduct of when chlorine combines with natural organic matter in the water supply after it is added for disinfection.

The standard for levels is 0.080 mg/L, but levels over the last four quarters was 0.087 mg/L.
