Bluffton University joins ecological tour

BLUFFTON — The public is invited to explore the biodiversity of Bluffton University and University of Findlay nature preserves.

The universities will host Bioblitz from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

Faculty experts will lead community members through a day-long exploration of local ecosystems starting with the Rieck Center for Habitat Studies, 17311 Township Road 166, Mount Blanchard.

The crew will then travel to the Spurgat Land Conservancy, located at County Road 79 and County Road 59 in Rawson, and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve, 10625 Augsburger Road, Bluffton.

The day will conclude with a reception at the Moyer Center.

Participants will work alongside biologists, ecologists and naturalists to identify species.

“We are excited to engage our community in this meaningful endeavor,” Ben Dolan, associate professor of biology and director of natural areas and plant collections for the University of Findlay, said in a press release.

“By partnering with Bluffton University, we aim to foster greater awareness and appreciation for the natural world while making significant strides in ecological research.”
