Firefighter injured fighting Nixon Avenue blaze

LIMA — A Lima firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries while battling a garage fire Thursday afternoon.

According to a spokesman for the Lima Fire Department, the unnamed fireman stepped in a hole at 510 N. Nixon Ave. while attempting to extinguish a garage fire at that site. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:27 p.m. to the blaze, the cause of which has not yet been determined. The total damage was estimated at $5,000 to the property and $2,000 to the contents of the garage, which is owned by John McRedmond.

An investigation into the fire’s origin is underway.
