Allen County Genealogy Society to meet July 20

LIMA — The Allen County Genealogy Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at the Seward-Folsom Auditorium, 620 W. Market St., Lima, to welcome new members and hear a presentation.

Society President Rebecca Pescosolido will present “Brothers in the Civil War,” a story about her relatives Charles, Henry, John, Isaac and Ensign Hayes.

Six new First Families of Allen County members include:

• Doris Engler, whose ancestors were George and Eli White who lived in Bath Township in 1831.

• Margaret Cleaves, whose ancestor was Samuel McClure who lived in Bath Township in 1826.

• Eileen Mowery, whose ancestor was Harmon Wood who lived in Bath Township in 1834. She is also a new member of Civil War Families of Allen County because of her ancestor William Lutes, who was a private in Company H, 169th OVI.

• Richard Mowery, whose ancestor was Jacob Delong who lived in Shawnee Township in 1836.

• Dan Roger Johns, whose ancestor was Griffith John who lived in German Township in 1832.

• Billie Gene Bowsher Jr., whose ancestor was Benjamin Bowsher who lived in Shawnee Township in 1836.

Another new member of the Civil War families is Janice Althaus, representing Capt. James Brown of Company A, 181st OVI; Private Henry J. Sherrick of Company F, 151st OVI (National Guard); Private Daniel Stukey, Company K, 54th OVI; and Private Levi Stukey, Company F, 151st OVI and Company B, 192nd OVI.
