Lima NAACP seeks applicants, sponsors for scholarship program

LIMA — The Lima chapter of the NAACP will hold its ninth annual scholarship banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 20 at the Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Graduate Medical Education Center, 751 W. Market St., Lima. The scholarship candidates will also be able to tour the facility at 4 p.m.

The scholarship, available for college or trade school, is intended for minority and disadvantaged students to give them an easier path to post-secondary education or skills training. Eligible high school seniors must have a minimum GPA of 2.6 and must write an essay outlining their career of choice, why they are choosing that career and what makes them deserving of the scholarship.

Currently, 17 students have applied for the scholarship, but applications are still being accepted through June 14. To learn more about the scholarship, call 419-516-1122 or email [email protected].

The NAACP is also seeking additional area businesses to help fund the scholarship program. Interested businesses can reach out to the local unit using the same phone number and email.
