Shawnee Township PD awarded safety grants

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The Shawnee Township Police Department has been awarded more than $47,000 in traffic safety grants from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. The grants, according to Chief Robert Kohli, will allow officers to perform traffic enforcement efforts designed to deter and change unsafe driving behaviors.

An Impaired Driver Enforcement Program grant will be used to focus on impaired driving enforcement, generally during nighttime conditions, and will place officers in a position to detect and apprehend OVI violations and reduce fatal or serious injury crashes, the chief said.

A Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant will be used to focus on speeding, distracted driving, seat belt violations and other safety-related violations.
