Unemployment rates down around region

LIMA — Unemployment rates went down in alll nine area counties in April, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Allen County’s rate dipped to 3.8%, down 0.3 percentage points from March’s 4.1. There were 2,696 jobs listed within 20 miles of Lima on the OhioMeansJobs website, as of Tuesday afternoon.

Hardin (3.3%), Logan (2.6%), Putnam (2.3%) and Shelby (2.7%) counties all saw substantial drops of 0.9 percentage points compared to last month.

Eight area counties had lower rates than they had a year ago, with the exception of Allen County, which had 3.7% unemployment last April.
