Commissioners approve township roadway projects

LIMA — Allen County Commissioners approved the 2023 County and Township Road Program. The annual program focuses on roadways that are in need of maintenance.

Each township will allocate funding for its roadways. The Allen County Engineer will provide the rest of the funding. The set cost for the project is $2,998,694.36.

The Engineer will provide maintenance to Amanda, American, Auglaize, Bath Jackson, Marion, Monroe, Perry, Richland, Shawnee, Spencer and Sugar Creek Townships.

“Every year in the spring, we drive the county and the township roads with the township trustees,” said Allen County Roadway Engineer Dave Louth. “We formulate a list of roads that need repair. We list those roads, we kind of create a wish list. I then calculate estimates on what it would cost to repair each one of those roads. And we kind of narrowed the list down based on how much funding we have and how much we’re willing to spend this year. And once we get that list, finalized, we send it up to the commissioners for them to review and approve.”
