Beef Quality Assurance certification program available at fairgrounds

ALLEN COUNTY — Allen and Auglaize County Ohio State University Extension offices will present a Beef Quality Assurance certification program on Wednesday, April 19 from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Youth Activities Building on the Allen County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are located at 2750 Harding Highway in Lima.

Beef Quality Assurance training seeks to preserve and expand cattle marketing opportunities while learning the best management practices for beef operation. This session will serve as certification or as re-certification for existing BQA holders. OSU Extension Meat Specialist Lyda Garcia will also make a presentation. Many beef processors, auctions, and other markets began requiring producers to have a BQA certificate at the beginning of 2019. This training does not meet requirements for youth to fulfill quality assurance requirements for exhibiting livestock. The program is being sponsored by the Auglaize County Farm Bureau Federation.

The event is free but pre-registration is needed. Register online at go.osu.edu/allenbqa or call the extension office. Registration is requested by Friday, April 14. Questions regarding the program can be directed to Allen County Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator Nic Baumer at [email protected] or Auglaize County Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator Jamie Hampton at [email protected].
