LIMA — A Lima woman who was out on bond while facing charges of trafficking in methamphetamine found herself back behind bars on Tuesday.
A pre-trial hearing was scheduled Tuesday in Allen County Common Pleas Court for Jodi Gibson, 47, charged with two second-degree felony counts of the aggravated trafficking in drugs. The hearing was the final opportunity for Gibson to accept or reject a plea deal before prosecutors took the offer off the table, but the proceedings took on an unexpected turn after it was revealed the Lima woman failed a drug screening on Monday because she tested positive for methamphetamines.
A bench warrant had already been issued for Gibson’s arrest by the time she arrived at court Tuesday.
Gibson was indicted by a grand jury in October on the trafficking charges that allege that Aug. 14, 2019, she “did knowingly prepare, ship, transport, deliver, prepare for distribution or distribute” a schedule II drug, meth, in an amount that is more than five but less than 50 times the bulk amount.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Randall Basinger put on the official record the most recent plea deal that has been extended to Gibson. Under the terms of that deal, Gibson would plead guilty to one amended count of trafficking, a third-degree felony, and would agree to a prison term of 36 months. The remaining count would be dismissed.
Gibson, however, said through her attorney Carroll Creighton hat the state’s offer was “unacceptable.”
Because of her failed drug test, Judge Terri Kohlrieser ordered Gibson remanded to the Allen County jail.
A jury trial is scheduled for Aug. 24 in the case.
