Auglaize shooting victim dies of injuries

ST. MARYS — One of two men shot earlier this month at a condominium on the south side of Grand Lake St. Marys has died.

Dexter Lee Turner, 47, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s in Lima of injuries sustained in the April 11 shooting, according to a statement issued by Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon. Solomon said the second shooting victim, Alim Amir Turner, 25, has been released from an area hospital.

Both men were shot by an unknown assailant at a residence believed to be the home of one of the men.

Auglaize County officials received a 911 call at approximately 3:22 a.m. April 11 from a male who stated he had been shot, Solomon said in a statement issued a few hours after the incident.

“Now that the case is a homicide, it doesn’t really change the way we have been investigating the case,” Solomon said. “It was a serious case to begin with and was being treated that way. Now it has become even more serious.”

The sheriff said an autopsy will be conducted on Dexter Turner. No other details were released.

“Deputies and detectives, along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and I continue to investigate the incident,” Solomon said.
