Another man faces manslaughter charge in Oliphant’s shooting death

LIMA – A fourth Lima man has been indicted by an Allen County grand jury on involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with the March 2017 shooting death of Damere Oliphant.

Gregory Brown, 21, has been identified as the get-away driver in the drug deal gone bad that ended in Oliphant’s death outside an apartment on Cam Court in Shawnee. He was initially indicted nearly a year ago but eluded police until his arrest in December of last year.

Brown waived his right to a speedy trial earlier this month and a jury trial was set for July 9 on two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one misdemeanor count of the attempted possession of drugs.

Two young Lima men have been sentenced for their roles in the shooting death of Oliphant and a third will be sentenced next month.

Gavin Lauck, 20, was sentenced earlier this month to 18 years to life in prison for murder. Collin Dysert, 20, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his participation in the drug deal that ended in Oliphant’s death. Dalton J. Duncan, 20, of Lima, pleaded guilty to a related kidnapping charge, a first-degree felony, and will be sentenced May 14.
