Father and son identified as victims in Wednesday shooting in St. Marys

ST. MARYS — The victims of an early-morning shooting Wednesday near St. Marys have been identified as a father and son.

In a statement released Thursday morning, Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said Dexter Lee Turner, 47, and Alim Amir Turner, 25, remain hospitalized with gunshot wounds suffered in the incident. Officials at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys refused Thursday morning to provide a condition report on the victims, citing HIPPA privacy regulations.

“All I know is that they’re both still alive,” Solomon said shortly before 11 a.m. today.

The shooting took place at a condominium on the south side of Grand Lake St. Marys that law enforcement officials believe to be the residence of one of the victims.

A 911 call was received by Auglaize County officials at approximately 3:22 a.m. Wednesday from a male who stated he had been shot, Solomon said in a statement issued a few hours after the incident.

The sheriff said Auglaize County deputies, detectives and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation spent all day Wednesday at the crime scene.

“The sheriff’s office is working hard to come up with suspects and answers on this case. We do not have a motive and information is still developing,” Solomon said.

No arrests have been made and the case remains under investigation.

“We’re still looking for a suspect,” Solomon said Thursday morning.
