Two Indiana residents die in Hardin County crash

HOLDEN — Two Indiana residents died as the result of a car-truck collision Sunday evening in Hardin County.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a crash that occurred at approximately 9:44 p.m. Sunday on state Route 117 south of Holden.

The crash resulted as a southbound car collided head-on with a northbound pickup truck. Occupants of the car were identified as Marcus Daniel Croy, 33 of Fort Wayne, and Michelle Hakey, 29, of Columbia City, Indiana. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Occupants of the pickup truck included the driver, Sonia Kropaczewski-McNamara, 39, and two infant children of Grand Junction, Michigan. All three were transported by medical helicopters to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo with serious injuries. Their conditions were not available on Monday.

A dog in the McNamara vehicle died as a result of the crash. A second dog was placed in the care of the Hardin County Dog Warden, according to a statement issued by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were units from Roundhead Fire and EMS, Alger EMS, Belle Center Fire and EMS, along with Life Flight and Care Flight medical helicopters; the Multi County Crash Investigation Team, Hardin County Volunteers In Police Service, Hardin County Dog Warden, Hardin County Coroner and Osborn’s Towing and Recovery.
