Lima woman may face extradition to Texas on drug charges

LIMA — A Lima woman who was sentenced last week in Allen County Common Pleas Court to three years of probation on a charge of possession of marijuana was back in court Monday as newly-discovered information revealed she is wanted in Texas.

Toionda Banks, 45, appeared before Judge Jeffery Reed after officials from Texas reportedly notified local authorities that Banks is wanted for a felony drug possession charge in the Lone Star State. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Destiny Caldwell said authorities in Texas are pursuing a fugitive from justice warrant against Banks that could led to her extradition back to Texas to stand trial.

Caldwell said Banks “has been on the run for 10 years” from Texas law enforcement officials and faces a prison sentence of between two and 10 years in that state.

Defense Attorney Katy McCleod asked that Banks be freed on bond while awaiting extradition, but Reed denied that request.
