Botched armed robbery nets Columbus woman 4-year prison term

LIMA — A Columbus woman who attempted to rob Duke’s Liquor Store in downtown Lima at gunpoint — reportedly under the threat of physical danger from her male accomplice if she failed to do so — was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.

Jennafer Andrian, 29, was sentenced by Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge David Cheney to three years on a charge of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and a mandatory one-year sentence for the use of a firearm in the commission of the crime.

Andrian accepted a plea deal from prosecutors for her role in the Sept. 14, 2017, robbery attempt at the liquor store, located at 630 N. Main St. The agreement amended the specification for the use of a firearm during the robbery from a mandatory three-year sentence as contained in the original indictment to a one-year mandatory prison term.

Surveillance video obtained by police from the liquor store shows Andrian entering the store armed with a handgun. She approached employee James Hirn and demanded money from the cash register. Hirn declined and Andrian fled the store empty-handed and climbed into a vehicle parked outside. The vehicle’s license plate number was traced to a Columbus suburb and Andrian and co-defendant, Darnell Welch, 28, also of Columbus, were arrested.

Andrian said she entered the liquor store only after Welch took the gun and pointed it at her head. She told police officials she went inside to rob the store because she was afraid Welch would kill her if she failed to do so.

Welch was sentenced in February to six years in prison — three years on a charge of aggravated robbery and an additional, mandatory three-year prison sentence for the use of a firearm during the commission of the robbery.
