Allen Co. Sheriff’s Office to serve as fiscal agent

LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office will serve as the fiscal agent for the Law Enforcement State Homeland Security Program for Ohio Region 1, an area covering 18 counties in the region. The arrangement covers three fiscal years.

“The grant holder will be responsible for any and all equipment that comes in for Region 1,” Chief Deputy Sheriff Brian Winegardner said. “Any request from an agency in Region 1 would come to the committee for approval, and the committee would approve it and send it to the state. It is 100 percent reimbursable, so there is no burden to any Allen County resident.”

Equipment purchases would encompass a variety of items, from portable radios to bomb squad and SWAT team equipment, Winegardner said.
