LIMA — Three armed robbery attempts of Lima businesses Sunday night — one in which gunshots were fired — may have been committed by the same people, police officials said.
The robberies took place at the Family Video store on Cable Road, The Family Dollar Store on South Main Street, and the Family Dollar Store in Northland Plaza.
In the attempted robbery of the Northland Plaza store, a struggle ensued and shots were fired as the robbers fled.
Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies said the Northland Plaza incident occurred at 8:11 p.m. Two unknown males entered the business and one brandished a handgun pointing it at an employee and demanding money. Both males wore hoodies and green masks that fully covered their faces.
A short struggle ensued and the two robbers fled, according to authorities. While fleeing one of the robbers fired a single shot into an entry/exit glass door. No injuries were reported.
Lima Police Department investigators are also searching for two individuals who robbed the Family Video store on Cable Road at gunpoint later that evening.
Detective Steve Stechschulte said Lima police officers were dispatched at about 10 p.m. to the video store, located at 733 S. Cable Road. He said the lone employee at the store told officers that two robbers wearing masks entered the store, with one of the men brandishing a weapon. The gunman demanded cash and then both robbers left the store on foot in a southeasterly direction, Stechschulte said.
Both robbers were shown on a security camera wearing hoodies and green masks that fully covered their faces.
The robbers remained at large late Monday.
No additional information on the South Main Street Family Dollar incident was available Monday.
