Real Wheels: 1963 Chevy Impala Convertibel an original classic

KALIDA — Bill Ellerbrock, of Kalida, brought this 1963 Chevy Impala Convertible to the Westgate Charity Car Show that was held in June.

The 1963 Chevrolet Impala featured all new “Jet Smooth” styling. The Chevrolet Impala debuted in 1958 and quickly became Chevy’s most popular passenger model. The car’s triple taillights distinguished this model from other Chevy models.

When Ellerbrock was 18, he had a 1963 Chevy Impala Convertible. Years later he found himself working at the GM plant and saw this beauty sitting in a guy’s yard with a for sale sign. He had to get some chrome and a battery but knew it had not been tampered with too much, as the green cold light came on when he started it. He has owned this car for 27 years now.

The car is pretty much all original. He had the hood repaired and replaced the door panels.

“Now when I look across the windshield, I see a nice shiny hood,” Ellerbrock said.

Ellerbrock said it’s not picture perfect but is very fun to drive.

“It’s not too fancy that you can’t enjoy it. I take it out and have fun with it,” Ellerbrock said.
