Real Wheels: One unusual wagon

LEIPSIC — Andy Doboze, of Leipsic, owns this Radio Red Flyer Wagon. He won Andy’s Choice Award at the recent Westgate Charity Car Show. This was the first car show where Doboze brought his vehicle.

The company Radio Red Flyer Wagon is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The company is offering a classic red metal wagon for its anniversary that runs $99.99.

Doboze’s Red Flyer Wagon is four times the scale of the typical child’s wagon. He purchased it from Ted Homier, of Glandorf, who built it. Doboze explained that he sells pumpkins. Homier brought this vehicle to his pumpkin patch one day. Doboze fell for it hook, line and sinker. He told Homier that if he ever wanted to sell the vehicle, he had a buyer. Doboze has owned it for approximately one year now.

The vehicle requires the use of a step ladder to get in and out of the car. One of Doboze’s first trips was to Walmart, and he forgot the ladder. He said people were stopping and staring as he shimmied down the vehicle to get out, and then when he had to climb the vehicle to get back in.
