Fire at vacant house deemed suspicious

LIMA — The Lima Fire Department is treating a Monday morning house fire as suspicious, with the department’s arson investigator looking into the incident.

At 9:01 a.m., the department was alerted to a house fire at 417 S. Baxter St. Upon arrival, firefighters found the house completely engulfed in flames, also causing siding damage to a neighboring house to the south. Firefighters were unable to gain access to the house, calling in a ladder truck to contain and extinguish the fire, which took about 15 minutes.

Investigators were treating the fire as suspicious because of the fact that it has been unoccupied for years and had no electricity going to the house. The house was being deemed a total loss, with a total assigned value of $21,900, according to the Allen County Auditor’s website.

No injuries were reported.
