COAST GUARD

Aaron Pitney, a 1992 Columbus Grove graduate, was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal by the Coast Guard.

Pitney served the last three years as the District 8 Regional Boat Manager in New Orleans. During this time, he created a guide for the Coastal Patrol Boat dry dock program, which was designed to save $2 million annually, with no reduction in fleet operational hours. He also tracked performance and maintenance measures of 173 small boats at 43 units, which allowed him to recapitalize 40 of those small boats valued at $1.5 million. He streamlined operational inspections, which reduced inspection visit times equating to the addition of 1,350 operational days per year for more than 450 ashore and afloat units Coast Guard-wide. This medal is awarded by the president of the United States.

Pitney accepted a new assignment in Corpus Christi, Texas. His new title is Officer in Charge of the Coast Guard Cutter Manatee. The Manatee is an 87-foot cutter with missions in Fisheries, Search and Rescue, and Drug Interdiction.

He has been enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard for 24 years.
