LIMA — Amber Martin has been named the new coordinator of Family and Children First Council of Allen County, replacing Jennie Horner, who took statewide work in Columbus.
Martin, who starts Monday, has nine and a half years experience with Allen County Children Services.
“It seemed like a nice transition,” Martin said. “Family and Children First continues to work with families and community partners in a different spectrum.”
Having a background in early childhood education will assist Martin in working with programs like Help Me Grown, she said.
“I’m definitely looking forward to getting back with that part of the population,” she said.
Martin was hired at a salary of $42,000.
One of the first major tasks for Martin is to help spearhead the application of over $740,000 in Healthier Buckeye Grant money, which will be used to bring in community navigators to work with individuals one-on-one to help them further their goals of becoming more self-sufficient, whether that is through transportation assistance, child care or other needs.
“That will be a change to Family and Children First,” she said. “It’s very exciting for everyone involved as we collaborate and serve families and the whole community. That is our main focus at this time.”
Collaboration will be a key for Martin, who will be working with such agencies as the United Way of Greater Lima, Allen County Children Services and Allen County Child Support Enforcement Agency.
“We bring all county schools to one table, mental health providers, West Ohio Community Action Partnership and others to fully serve our families and all citizens of Allen County,” she said.
