St. Marys girl killed while walking in road

ST. MARYS — Troopers are looking for the driver of a dark-colored pickup truck who ran over and killed a 14-year-old St. Marys girl walking down the road Wednesday evening.

The girl, Emily Rempe, was walking in the eastbound lane on county Road 33A near Barrington Road at 10:41 p.m. when she was struck by the pickup, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The pickup continued without stopping. The girl was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries, the patrol reported.

County Road 33A is east of St. Marys, with the accident area located near Midwest Electric. It is mainly farmland, but there are housing developments in the area.

The crash remains under investigation. The vehicle was described as a full-size pickup with either a roll bar or tall exhaust smoke stacks in the back. Anyone with information on the truck or the driver should call the patrol at 419-738-4324.
