Lane fails to appear for sentencing

LIMA — A man who had promised to honor the lives of two girls he killed when he crashed his car may now also face additional charges of failing to appear in court.

Andrew Lane, 25, pleaded guilty in April to a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth degree felony. Lane failed to appear for sentencing Thursday in Allen County Common Pleas Court. Lane now could possibly face the failing to appear charge, as well as a bench warrant to assure he shows up for sentencing.

Lane is facing up to one year in prison for the charge.

Lane was in a halfway house when authorities found him in possession of synthetic marijuana on Sept. 5.

Lane was the driver of a car he crashed on Dec. 5, 2008, which resulted in the death of Sara Kruger, a sophomore, and Kierra Morman, a freshman, both at Allen East High School. The crash happened on Greely Chapel Road at 3:30 a.m. when Lane was driving at a high rate of speed. Lane had served two years of a four-year sentence when Judge Richard Warren granted him early release. Warren had expressed to Lane that it was very important on how he lived his life and the legacy he would leave for those who were no longer here. Lane expressed a desire to do so but has found himself in constant trouble.

Court officials have not yet rescheduled the sentencing hearing.
