Lima City Council to vote on safety service-related ordinances

LIMA — Lima City Council will vote on several safety service related ordinances during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lima Municipal Building.

One of the ordinances will authorize the issuance of $10,000 from the Federal Asset Forfeiture Fund to be used as “overtime for special operations,” according to a letter to the council from Lima Police Chief Kevin Martin.

“These funds will allow the Lima Police Department to be more proactive in solving violent crime issues as they are identified throughout the city and will be helpful in improving quality of life throughout Lima’s neighborhoods,” he continued. “The use of this overtime will be in addition to overtime already funded through the city’s General Fund and will not supplant those funds already approved.”

Another ordinance will allow the city to apply for a $62,550 grant from the Ohio Development Services Agency’s Local Government Safety Capital Grant program.

“If awarded, the funds will be used to replace outdated safety equipment currently utilized by members of the Lima Police Department,” Martin said in a letter to council.

Council will also vote on allowing the city to apply for a grant through the state’s Local Government Safety program for $31,296 for the Lima Fire Department.

“Should the City of Lima, Ohio be awarded this grant, it would allow the Lima Fire Department to purchase four self-contained breathing apparatus,” Chief Mark Heffner said.

Council will also vote on a resolution memorializing the late Frances Napier, former council representative for the 5th Ward, who was the first minority woman ever to serve on City Council.
