Cinema at the Square film series brings classic movies back to Playhouse Square’s Connor Palace

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Before the Connor Palace hosted big touring Broadway shows, it was one of the city’s premier movie palaces. The theater will return to those roots for three weekends this summer with Cinema at the Square. Running July 25-Aug. 11, the film series features 15 classic movies on the theater’s big screen.

The lineup includes something for everyone, from old Hollywood favorites like “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” “Some Like It Hot,” “The Philadelphia Story” and “Rebel Without a Cause” to 1980s gems such as “Die Hard,” “Moonstruck,” and “Hairspray.” The ‘90s are well-represented, too, with “The Mask,” “Ever After,” “10 Things I Hate About You” and “The Parent Trap.” There are also films for families like ”Mary Poppins” and “The Iron Giant.”

Movies will be presented in their original 35-mm format and accompanied by music on Playhouse Square’s restored 1928 Kimball organ. Concession stands will serve classic movie theater fare to complete the nostalgic experience.

Cinema at the Square tickets are available now at playhousesquare.org/cinema or by phone at 216-641-6000. Admission is $8, but seniors 65 and older can get free tickets courtesy of Medical Mutual with promo code SENIORS at checkout. The Connor Palace is located at 1615 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland’s historic Playhouse Square district.
