Mark Figley: Wacky Walz a bad pick for VP

Now that all the mystery has disappeared with Kamala Harris’ pick of Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate, the pundits are having a field day.

For anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock, the past three-plus years have provided more than ample proof of Harris’ zany conduct and general lack of impressiveness. Yet while Walz has boldly characterized both Donald Trump and JD Vance as “weird,” he should tread lightly when it comes to bizarre conduct and wacky ideas.

As governor of Minnesota, many have come to affectionately refer to him as “Tampon Tim.” This after he signed a law mandating period products be available to all “menstruating students.” Translation: boys’ bathrooms in Minnesota schools will stock pads and tampons. Weird.

And while we’re on the subject of minors, Walz has been unwavering in his support of gender choice and sex change mutilation without parental consent. Adding to the madness, Walz made his state a “trans refuge” by shielding people from punishment by other states for seeking and delivering gender-affirming care.

Walz also recently garnered the endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America after he enlightened countless voters with his lofty pronouncement that, “One man’s socialism is another man’s neighborliness.” Bless his heart!

Not to be outdone with his verbal wizardry, Walz has previously joked he would invest in a factory which makes 30-foot ladders if Donald Trump built a border wall 25-feet high. Then there’s his impressive list of issue stances just guaranteed to win over middle-class voters everywhere.

He’s a mirror image of Harris when it comes to the southern border. Since 2019, he’s favored defunding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, supported amnesty as “the right thing to do,” approved free college tuition, health insurance and drivers licenses for illegals, favored making Minnesota a sanctuary state and even opposed inadmissibility to the U.S. for suspected terrorists.

Walz is a big believer in electric vehicles too; just as Harris loves electric school buses. He likes EV’s so much that by 2035, he wants no gas-powered cars in his state. Simply electrifying!

He’s all in on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion too. Maybe that helps explain why he stood idly by during the violent 2020 BLM riots which resulted in over $55 million in damage to Minneapolis and the intentional surrender/destruction of a police precinct. Meanwhile, Walz’s wife has admitted she kept the windows of the governor’s mansion open during the unrest to smell the burning tires. Now that’s really weird.

Walz was also among the nation’s worst governors in managing the COVID pandemic, shutting down schools, wasting millions in tax dollars, racking up more deaths in nursing homes than New York’s Gov. Cuomo and encouraging Minnesotans to use a telephone hotline to report on their neighbors’ COVID compliance.

Last, but not least, Walz signed into law legislation that puts no limits on when a woman may obtain an abortion. Babies born alive in botched abortions were allowed to die.

Then there’s the fact that although Walz served 20-plus years in the Minnesota Army National Guard, he resigned as command sergeant major in 2005 and abandoned the nearly 500 brave souls under his watch once he discovered the unit was being deployed to Iraq. Despite his protestations to the contrary, military records show he left early to avoid the deployment. And when it came time to retire, he was notably “not available for signature.” Does this sound like a guy you would like to be in a foxhole with?

Harris’s selection of Walz as her running mate says much about her political philosophy. They now comprise the most radical presidential ticket in the history of America.

Democrats like Walz have become brazen and arrogant in choosing to double down on the diabolical system of governance they have in store for America. It is antithetical to both freedom and the Constitution as we have witnessed under Biden and Harris. Our weakened nation cannot sustain the enhanced destruction that Walz would add to a Democrat regime. It’s as plain as the nose on your face.
