LIMA — A dozen men served as presidents of the United States between 1869 and 1923 and seven of them were born in Ohio. An eighth president, William Henry Harrison, who parlayed fame fighting Indians in the old Northwest Territory into the presidency and died just 31 days into his term in 1841, was born in Virginia but was living in Ohio at the time he was elected.

Salvation Army celebrates Christmas in July

LIMA — The Salvation Army will carry on the annual tradition of Christmas in July. The red kettles will be held at all Chief and Kewpee locations this coming month. According to the Salvation Army, the Christmas in July campaign will run this year from July 11 through July 30.

Lima Refinery conducting ‘full-scale’ emergency training

LIMA — Emergency training will be held today at the Lima Refinery. Cenovus Energy plans to conduct this full-scale training along with the local Shawnee Township Fire Department and the Allen County Emergency Management Agency. Both teams will be visible to the public along the Ottawa River in Shawnee Township. The exercise will allow the testing and improvement of emergency response to the Refinery.

Testimony began Tuesday in the trial in Allen County Common Pleas Court of a Lima man accused of physically assaulting the mother of his child and leaving the scene of the incident in the woman’s vehicle which contained the child.
