SPENCERVILLE — Once a Bearcat, always a Bearcat.

The postseason is underway as of Tuesday night for area high school boys basketball teams.

It’s difficult to get sports enthusiasts from my generation to agree on many arguments about local basketball trivia back in the day, but there appears to be universal agreement on two points of contention: The most historic gymnasium and the greatest game ever played in that cathedral of hoops.

LIMA — For a game that seemed like it might have a running clock in its future before it tipped off, Lima Senior’s 60-41 win over Mansfield Madison in a Division I boys basketball sectional game Tuesday night had a lot of interesting moments.

ELIDA — Shawnee came back from 17 points down to beat Elida the first time they met this season in the Tip-Off Classic and the sequel was similar when the Indians rallied from seven points behind in the fourth quarter for a 54-51 boys basketball win at the Elida Fieldhouse on Friday night.

Ottawa-Glandorf jumped all the way up to No. 1 in Division III on Monday in the eighth and final weekly boys state poll, voted upon by Associated Press members throughout Ohio.

Grace Freiberger of Shawnee was named the WBL’s Player of the Year on Sunday.

For the third straight season, Colin White of Ottawa-Glandorf was named the WBL’s Player of the Year on Sunday night.

Pandora-Gilboa’s Aiden Harris was voted the boys basketball Player of the Year on the All-Putnam County League team, which was announced Sunday night.

Wren Sheets of Crestview was named the NWC’s Player of the Year on Sunday.
