Four injured in fire at Cenovus Energy Lima Refinery

LIMA — A unit at the Cenovus Energy Lima Refinery caught fire Thursday morning.

On-site firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the fire, according to a press release from Cenovus Energy. Four people were treated on-site by the company’s medical team.

“The safety of everyone on our site, and the community, is our priority,” according to a statement from the company. “We are conducting a thorough investigation. We want to ensure we understand what happened and the steps we can take to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The refinery has a crude oil throughput capacity of 175,000 barrels per stream day, depending on the type of crude processed. It produces low-sulphur gasoline, gasoline blend stocks, ultra-low sulphur diesel, jet fuel petrochemical feedstock and other byproducts, according to Cenovus Energy.

In 2019, the company finished a crude oil flexibility project that increased heavy oil processing capacity to 40,000 barrels per stream day.

The refinery produces approximately 2 billion gallons of refined petroleum products annually and about 25 percent of Ohio’s gasoline supply.
