‘Person of interest’ in Lima double murder waives preliminary hearing

LIMA — A Lima man described by police as a person of interest in a June 3 double homicide on Thursday waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Lima Municipal Court and had his case bound over to Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Clinton Owens Jr., 32, is charged with having weapons under disability, a felony of the third degree. He was returned to Lima from Las Vegas on July 1 to face the charge and is being held without bond because of an earlier parole violation.

Owens and Michelle Alves, 31, of Lima, were arrested June 15 in Nevada after warrants for their arrest were issued by the Lima Police Department in connection with the June 3 shooting deaths of Tarissa and Charles Sanders at a residence at 413 S. Atlantic St. in Lima.

Officers from the LPD were dispatched that morning to a residence on South Atlantic Avenue after a report of shots fired. Two individuals were found inside the residence when police arrived. Tarissa Sanders was already deceased, and Charles Sanders died at a local hospital a short time later. According to Stechschulte, both victims died of gunshot wounds.

Alves will appear for her preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Monday in Lima Municipal Court.
