Sheriff warns of jury duty phone scam

FINDLAY — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is alerting county residents of a jury duty scam.

Residents have been receiving calls from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office claiming that a warrant has been issued for the resident’s arrest for failing to report for jury duty or other offenses. The caller will then attempt to solicit money from the victim in the form of cash, money orders or Green Dot cards.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office always serves arrest warrants in person and does not solicit for money over the telephone. Anyone feeling they have been a victim of this scam is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 419-424-7097 on Monday. The scam can also be reported online at http://ohioattorneygeneral.gov.
