ST. MARYS — U.S. 33 westbound near state Route 66 was closed for about two hours early Tuesday following a one-vehicle crash.

Sandra J. Faler, 60, of Wapakoneta, was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital for treatment. A hospital nursing supervisor said no information was available on Faler’s condition. A spokeswoman for the state patrol said Faler survived the crash.

The crash happened at 6:53 a.m. Tuesday when Faler was driving west on U.S. 33. She apparently lost control of her vehicle and struck the right guard rail. Her vehicle slid across the roadway, struck the left guard rail and overturned in the median several times, the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Faler’s vehicle continued through a fence, down an embankment and over railroad tracks, eventually coming to rest on its wheels and catching fire, the patrol reported.

The crash remains under investigation, the patrol reported.

Roads were icy during the morning hours.
