LIMA — The Price is Right Live will be on stage Thursday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center.

The traveling show is based on the television game show of the same name, and the Civic Center took advantage of the touring company playing several dates in Ohio to book the show locally, said Cindy Wood, chief executive officer of the Civic Center.

“The new touring show is actually somewhat new to the performing arts center market,” Wood said, explaining it had its start in Las Vegas.

The stage version brings the same appeal as the game show.

“We all grew up watching Bob Barker and now Drew Carey,” she said. “The number of folks who have come in and purchased tickets that have said, ‘This is on my bucket list.’ … This so far looks to be a hit.”

Lima’s host will be Todd Newton, known for his work on E! Entertainment Television and several other game shows. The audience will recognize the classics such as Plinko and Cliffhangers, and contestants earn a chance at The Big Wheel.

Ticketholders do not automatically become possible contestants on the show. If you are interested in being a contestant, you must register for that in a separate process before the show. A new set of contestants is called down every round in the live version of this show.

In addition to the show, an expo will be open in the afternoon in the exhibition hall. Hosted by Childers Media Group, the expo will be from 3 to 7 p.m. and will include games and chances to win up to $2,000.

“I think it’ll be a ton of fun,” Wood said. “There’s all different ways for people to have fun at the Civic Center.”

The overall sponsor of the event is Superior Federal Credit Union.
